GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- A motorcyclist is dead after a crash just east of Van Alstyne.

It happened around 4 p.m. on Saturday on F.M. 121. Troopers say a car was attempting to turn north onto Hynds Ranch Road, when a motorcycle tried to pass several vehicles in a no-passing zone.

According to DPS, the motorcyclist, Troy Kardokus, 48, of Wylie, ran into the back of the car, throwing him off the bike and forcing the car off the road.

Kardokus was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car, Karla Sprowl, 47, was okay.

Sprowl is the mother of a Van Alstyne High School student who was paralyzed in a sledding accident at his home after December's ice storm.

A barbeque benefit was held last night for Riley Sprowl at Kings Trail Cowboy Baptist Church near Whitewright.

Organizer Chris Offill says nearly one-thousand people showed up and they raised several thousand dollars. The teenager continues his recovery at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
