Grass Fire Breaks Out Behind Home Near Denison

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- Dry conditions and wind helped spread several grass fires around Texoma.

Firefighters were called to Kool Lane, east of Denison, around 3 p.m. on Saturday.  That's where they say a homeowner had been burning some brush, but it got out of hand.

He tried to put it out himself, getting some cuts from the brambles in the process, and then decided it had gotten too bad for him to control, so he called for help.

"The wind got up and it just got out of control and actually spread to several acres of land and we've got it under control now and about got it out, so that was it just got to be real careful when the wind gets up as high as it did today," says Denison fire Battalion Chief Brandon Eeds.

Denison, Bells, Airport, and Savoy firefighters responded. Neighbors say their phone went out after a wiring box burned, so one of them who used to work at Verizon got to work trying to fix it.
