Choctaw Co. Voters Approve Liquor Sales Proposition

Posted:

CHOCTAW COUNTY, OK -- Voters approved a county-wide measure allowing the sale of liquor in bars and restaurants.

The proposition passed with 696 votes for and 517 people against.  Area restaurants already sell beer, but will now be allowed to sell liquor by the drink on the premises, election board clerk Kim Young said. Previously, it was only available at liquor stores.

Meantime, two propositions to upgrade the school in Grant -- a $350,000 upgrade including a "safe room" and a $100,000 bond -- were each rejected, the first by 63-43 and the second 62-42. Grant got an "F" in recent state rankings.
