Moyers superintendent exempts students from standardized test after tragedy

MOYERS, OK -- The same standardized test that gave thousands of Oklahoma students problems earlier this week is now giving one Texoma community even more stress. this time, though, it has nothing to do with technical glitches. How could two students whose parents died over the weekend ever be expected to focus on a standa...More >>

KONAWA, OK-- A Konawa woman is in jail after police say she fired a gun during a high school basketball tournament this weekend.

"She had every intention of going through the actions that she was stating that night," said Sgt. Debra Strain.

Konawa police say when 28-year-old Summer Shaw entered the gym at Konawa High School about 6:30 Saturday night, she was armed with .25 caliber pistol.

Chief Joe Leeds says the gym was packed with 300 people who there to watch a basketball tournament.

"She immediately went in, went directly toward her target area, which was her grandfather," said Leeds, "and got into a verbal argument, which turned into a physical altercation."

Authorities say Shaw quickly brought her altercation outside of the gymnasium. It was during her struggle with school authorities that she shot one bullet into the ground.

Leeds said: "They saw her trying to remove the gun, and were able to wrap her up in a bear hug and hold her up against the wall. That was when the weapon was fired."

Sgt. Strain says investigators found more than 11 grams of methamphetamine in Shaw's pocket, then hauled her off in a patrol car.

"She was very combative, wanting to fight," said Strain. "She was obviously yelling, screaming, threatening, banging her head against against the back of the partition. Saying she was wanting to kill herself."

Officers say they believe the incident might have been sparked by a custody dispute over Shaw's kids. In the surveillance video, Shaw keeps referencing them.

Shaw is being held at the Seminole County Jail, and was arrested on nine different charges. We have yet to receive a statement from the school system.
