Woman found on side of road in Lamar County

LAMAR COUNTY -- A woman was found on the side of a rural Lamar County road on New Year's Day. She later died.

According to a press release from the Lamar County Sheriff's Office, "On January 1, 2014 at approximately 11:10am a Lamar County citizen called 911 reporting that he found a female subject lying in the roadway on CR 25780 next to a vehicle that was stuck in the mud. First responders, Paris EMS and Lamar County Deputies responded to the scene. They found the woman to be unresponsive and CPR was started. The female was transported to Paris Regional Medical Center where she later died. Justice of the Peace Gene Hobbs performed the inquest and an autopsy was requested for the deceased.  The deceased was transferred to American Forensics for autopsy. Deputies learned on scene that the female subject was traveling with her brother when the vehicle became stuck. Both subjects were working to free the vehicle when the brother left on foot to find someone to pull the vehicle out.  A citizen found the female subject lying next to the vehicle while the brother was gone.  The Lamar County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death and no names are being released at this time pending family notifications. The results of the autopsy are pending."

Deputies say the woman had previous medical problems and likely died from natural causes.
