Memorial Service Set For Grayson Co. Murder Victim


GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- The investigation continues following the beating death of a Grayson County woman.

Instead of reuniting for Christmas, family members of a senior citizen murdered this week met up on Friday evening at her home prepare for a memorial service.

The service for Marlene Cannon, 70, has been set for 2 p.m. on Saturday at Church of the Resurrection on West Burton Street in Sherman.

Deputies say they got a 9-1-1 call on Monday asking for an ambulance at Scott Hill Road, west of Pottsboro, for a woman who was covered in blood.

They found the retired accountant, who family members describe as kind and compassionate, was severely beaten.

She was taken to a Plano hospital and died from her injuries on Wednesday. Cannon is survived by three siblings, three kids, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The Texas Rangers and deputies have searched the property, which was a bar that Cannon took over and turned into her home. It was released it back to the family.
