Christmas Parade Draws Crowds In Sherman

SHERMAN, TX -- A big party rolled its way through the downtown area and many people were happy it was better late than never.

The city's Christmas Parade, which had to be postponed last week due to the ice storm, took place Saturday night to the delight of hundreds of people who turned out to watch.

The parade went down Travis street at 7 p.m. Plenty of people braved the cold to watch the parade go by, and some people even brought chairs or set up their cars along the parade route. As part of the festivities, the Snowflake Festival was held near the Grayson County Courthouse.

The following parade winners were announced by the Sherman Chamber of Commerce:

"Grand Prize- A Christian Fellowship
First Place- Faith Church of Sherman No Limits Youth Ministry
Second Place- East Sherman Baptist Church- Touch of White
Decorated Vehicle- Women Rock
Equestrian- Texoma Quarter Horse Association"

In other holiday events, some Sherman kids who were hoping for candy on Saturday afternoon may have been disappointed.  The city's parks department cancelled a Candy Cane Hunt that was supposed to take place at Pecan Grove Park, where a cancellation sign was posted. There's no word if the cancellation was related to the weather.
