Durant Lights Community Tree

DURANT, OK -- They're lighting things up on the other side of the Red River as well.

"Three, two, one...hahahaha"

People in Durant gathered Monday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center on Main Street to light up the night with their community Christmas tree.

About 50 people were on hand for the annual event.  There was also music.  They sang Christmas carols, and there was a candle lighting as well.

"We're trying to build loyalty for the town," said volunteer Stephanie Williams.  "If you'll notice the town has turned blue for the season of Christmas, we are supporting Southeastern and Durant high school, their colors both are royal blue, and so hopefully the community will rally around and support those great schools.">

Durant's community tree was made possible by a donation from Carol Staton.
