Longtime Sheriff's Deputy Remembered At Funeral In Bonham

BONHAM, TX -- Hundreds pay their respects to a Fannin County deputy who died unexpectedly this week.

The funeral for Sheriff's Investigator Wayne Walker of Bailey was held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Bonham High School gym.

Dozens of fellow law enforcement officers showed up to say good-bye, along with the Collin County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard.

Walker died on Wednesday at the Medical Center of Plano after the sheriff says he suffered bleeding on the brain. He had 25 years in law enforcement, with 17 of those in the sheriff's office.

"He's worked in every capacity there, from a jailer, dispatcher, a deputy, investigator, he's done it all," says Sheriff Donnie Foster. "He's been in kind of bad health lately, but he kept right on working. That's his style. He lived until he died and we're really gonna miss him."

Walker worked as a police officer in Trenton, Ladonia, and Leonard earlier in his career. He leaves behind a wife, Doris. In lieu of flowers, the Wayne Walker Memorial Law Enforcement Scholarship Fund has been set up at Fannin Bank in Bonham.
