New Book Chronicles Van Alstyne History In Pictures

VAN ALSTYNE, TX -- A new book gives residents of one Grayson County town a window into the past.

A book signing for "Van Alstyne" was held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Van Alstyne Public Library.

Author Bill O'Neal says this is one of 8,000 towns across the country featured in Arcadia Publishing's "Images of America" book series.

The Carthage resident, whose daughter lives in Van Alstyne, says he did research right there in the library to compile the book.

"I copied photos actually from the old newspapers. I copied photos from the old high school annuals, went to the Van Alstyne Museum and there I found many of the same kind of sources including the very first high school annual that dated from 1913," says O'Neal, who is the Texas State Historian.

O'Neal says understanding our past is an important part of knowing who we are today, and he hopes people in Van Alstyne will now be able to learn more about their town's history.
