Tons Of Unwanted Papers Shredded In Durant For Recycling

DURANT, OK -- A free shredding event had people disposing of six tons of unwanted papers.

It was held on Saturday at the Choctaw Reycling Center off Enterprise Boulevard, north of the casino. Organizers say about 30 individuals and businesses brought paper to a shred truck that was visiting the center from Dallas.

All the items are shredded into paper pieces, which are then packed into bales for recycling. "This is one way that it doesn't go into the landfill and they don't have to worry about it getting into the wrong hands as well," says Choctaw Nation project management director Tracy Horst.

This was a special one-day event as part of America Recycles Day which was Friday, but the recycling center is open to anyone for other types of recycling on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
