ARDMORE, OKLAHOMA -- An Ardmore man is in jail accused of killing his neighbor's dog.

Octavius Godwin was arrested Tuesday after police say he shot and killed a dog in the 1200 block of 4th Avenue NW.

Ardmore police say they were responding to a burglary call at Big 5 apartments when they heard three shots coming from an adjacent neighborhood.

Godwin was booked on several charges, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Police say after he shot the dog, Godwin made his way to Burton Street.

"The motive is really very unclear," said Sgt. Ryan Hunnicutt. "If you look at it with common sense, if you're trying to get away with committing a burglary, you wouldn't stop a few blocks away and draw attention to yourself by firing a gun. It's an unusual set of circumstances"

Officers say they recovered several bags of marijuana from the car Godwin was in and later attained a search warrant for the home and arrested Godwin around 7:30 Tuesday morning

Two people in the car with Godwin were released after they were interviewed in connection with the drug charges.

Charges on all three suspects have been submitted to the district attorney.
