House Near Denison Hit By Lightning During Storms

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- It was a Saturday marked by wet weather across Texoma, and also lightning.

Denison firefighters were called to Lil' Ol Road around 9 a.m. on Saturday for a report of a house that had apparently been struck by lightning, Capt. Mark Escamilla said.

The homeowner tells us that it hit an old TV antenna pole out at the back of the house, frying the area where the two walls come together.

"We've got a tall antenna that we'd already estimated to take down but he hadn't done it yet it hit it and it came in," says John Hamel.  "It sounded like lightning. Kaboom and a big flash! ...We didn't even know it hit the house to begin with but I went to the back and smelled smoke."

The strike happened at the corner of a storage room and it caused electrical problems in the house, Hamel said.  No one was hurt.
