SHERMAN, TX -- Hundreds of runners were out pounding the pavement this morning, as part of an effort to draw attention to an umbrella charity that distributes funds around Grayson County.

Organizers say about 600 people took part in the 4th Annual Hustle for Health, sponsored this year by Cigna. The race near the Sherman Municipal Building on Saturday morning kicked off the Grayson County United Way's fundraising year.

They hope to match last year's nearly $1.4 million total. This year, both Denison and Sherman's mayors are serving as campaign co-chairs.

"We support 19 different agencies, 33 different programs that work in the community, everything from Habitat for Humanity to Boys and Girls Club to Meals on Wheels. These are programs that help improve lives and that's what United Way is all about," says campaign co-chair Cary Wacker.

More than 260 runners from around Texoma took part in the "timed" 5K race. There was also a 10K and some people brought family members or chose to walk the course, organizers said.
