DENISON, TX -- Dozens attended a dinner put on by a local Friends of the NRA chapter.

Organizers say the funds raised at Thursday night's event at The Palazzo go half to the national Friends of the NRA group and half to a Texas chapter, which gives money to grant-seekers like 4-H groups and police departments.

The chairwoman says gun rights are important to them, but it's not their focus. "It's more about safe gun handling, hunter safety, hunter education, and just making sure that our youth of today has the opportunity to participate in shooting sports like we did," says North Central Texas Friends of the NRA chairwoman Cherri Reddick.

This is the first time they've held a banquet in nine years. The group has been meeting at J&S Pawn shop in Denison and welcomes new members.
