WILSON, OK --- The only thing Wilson and winning have had in common lately is the letter "w." But that's quickly about to change.
"You know, you got to get back to the ways of winning and that's what we're here to do," head coach, warren butler said
Head coach Warren Butler is entering his second season at the helm. And with a full year under his belt, he's seeing constant improvement.
"We know what we're doing a lot more than we did last year. We got to do a lot more summer stuff because he's here, because coach Butler's here, last year we didn't get to know him until two weeks before school started," Wilson sophomore running back, Austin Schiralli said.
"we're going to work harder, we got Coach Butler. You know, last year he came in, we didn't really know him, we didn't really know what he was doing, now we have a better understanding of the new game that we have going on and we're just going to work hard," Wilson junior lineman, Levi Thompson said.
The Eagles finished at 1-9 last season, and they're heading into the fall a young group. But numbers are up, last year when they went to Ringling, only 12 players were in uniform. As of this week the convocation has reached the mid-30s and is going up.
we want to continue to build on what we have already done and these young men are definitely doing that," Butler said.
It's not a stretch to think these boys can reach their goal of making the playoffs. It's been nine years, and they believe there's no better time to make it than now.
"Oh man, there would be nothing like it, there's nothing like getting ready for week 11. There's a lot of excitement in town and the people are ready to see something go on," Butler said.
Butler says their style in practice is 100 percent hard core and they get it everyday... The players would agree.
"Work ethic... A lot harder work, but it pays off," Schiralli said.
