ATOKA, OK -- The Atoka Wampus Cats are coming off a rough 2012 only winning one game against Antlers.
They're heading into their last season in Class 3A trying to make the playoffs for the first time in four years.
They'll have to do it under Jimmie Wyrick, who stepped up four days before the season started to take over for Joe Jones, who resigned.
"There were a few short days where we didn't know kind of what was going on. I had a plan and we followed through with it, I'm the new guy. The kids handled it pretty well, they're here, they're excited about football and football will happen. We look forward to having a good season," Wyrick said.
"We were very comfortable with his coaching ability and coaching styles, and it was just great coming out here and we learned, rather than screaming and hollering and let's run all these plays. He taught us and we learned and enjoyed it and had fun," senior Brett Stevens addend.
