City Commissioners Vote on Sales Tax Renewal

Ardmore, Ok-- Ardmore voters will decide on renewing the city's sales tax this fall.

Daniel Romo owns the Casa Romo restaurant located in downtown Ardmore. Romo has owned his business for several years now and when asked what he thought about the proposed sales tax renewal, he said it will be great for the community.

"if the Ardmore Development Authority is able to gather some more business and bring new industries into the Ardmore area or carter county as a whole, that can only help us and that's the goal!" said Romo. "I think it's also important to keep in my mind that it's not a tax increase, it's a tax renewal."

City commissioners voted to put the quarter cent sales tax renewal on the ballot for the elections this fall in a meeting held Monday night.

Ardmore Development Interim President and CEO Brian Carter said the purpose of the ADA is to help the community grow as a whole

"Our goal is to provide for Ardmore, a greenhouse for Ardmore where we can intentionally develop things and for the long run benefit the city," said Carter.

The sales tax will go towards various projects throughout the city including fixing water and sewer problems and towards the Ardmore airpark.

"One of the most important things that we need to do for local businesses that are already here is continue attracting professionals, skill trades and hardworking people for all of our industries and all of our companies," said Carter.

Officials said the current sales tax will expire September 30th.
