JEFFERSON COUNTY, OK -- Troopers say two Southern Oklahoma residents drowned in separate incidents on the same afternoon at Waurika Lake.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Gary Burkhart, 41, of Waurika, encountered rough waters around 3:30 p.m. on Friday. He was swimming with his wife in the lake and she went for help, but it was too late, troopers said.

Then in a separate incident around 7:30 p.m.,  Maximiliano Garcia, 18, of Duncan, went after a soccer ball in the water. He went under and family members were unable to reach him, the preliminary OHP report states.

Garcia's body was recovered around 9 a.m. on Saturday using Sonar.

Just two weeks ago, Colton Parnell, 12, of Roff, also drowned at the same lake.
