OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma Department of Human Services says about $16 million in federal funds will be made available this year to help low-income Oklahomans with their summer cooling bills.

The agency announced Wednesday that it will begin taking applications July 9 at county offices across the state. The agency will continue to accept applications until all of the funding through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program are depleted.

Households that already receive public assistance through DHS will be automatically authorized. The agency says it expects one-time payments to range from $120 for a one-person household to as much as $180.

The qualifying income guidelines range from a maximum of $1,024 in monthly net income for a one-person household to $3,565 in monthly net income for an eight-person household.
