DURANT, OK -- Police say a man was stabbed almost a dozen times inside a bar during a fight involving several people.

Police say the victim in the stabbing was taken to MCSO in Durant and then had to be flown out for treatment for his injuries but that he is expected to recover. Neighbors noticed the commotion as cop cars descended on their street.

Police were called to a bar fight and say the altercation among several people ended with one man stabbed about 10 times. "I just saw two guys on the ground behind our car, I was getting ready to call the cops looked over and they were already here," says witness Beth Humann.

Humann says she noticed someone fighting outside her nearby apartment shortly before 10 p.m. on Wednesday. Then she says she realized one of the men tussling on the ground was an officer who was trying to arrest somebody.

"It was a police officer had a guy down and a gal from the bar came running over and told him to calm down to quit trying to fight," says Humann. "I didn't know what was going on. I was afraid that they was going to close our bar down."

A woman who says she is the manager of the bar told me she had no comment about what happened. Meantime, some of the neighbors say they have seen fights outside this bar in the past.

"There's fights over there all the time," says witness Misty Williams. "It's okay business over there but with any bar you have you're going to have that struggle."

"It's a bar and I can't stop it and don't care if it's over there myself. I got good neighbors," says neighbor Tommy Bridges.

"There's quite a few fights over there but it's handy I don't have to drive if I want to go have a drink," says Humann. "I don't have to drive so I don't have to worry about causing accidents."

When the sun came up, Shaun Long, 31, was in the Bryan County Jail under arrest for alleged assault. Police also arrested another man John Cook, 27, on public intoxication and resisting arrest at the same bar.

It followed a night where a dispute from across the street came a little too close for some neighbors. "I never had a police officer have someone down in my yard," says Humann.

Long was not arraigned Thursday, but instead was taken to MCSO for treatment. He could face assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charges and is expected to go before a judge tomorrow.
