SHERMAN, TX---- Retailers in downtown Sherman are celebrating. Today, dozens of residents showed up for the dedication of a long-awaited improvement project.

The "Downtown Sherman Streetscape Project" dedication recognized several physical changes that have been made downtown. These changes took about four years to complete and tonight, several community members were recognized for their contribution towards making them happen.

The revamping of downtown Sherman comes after getting a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation and donations from city staff and residents. The money has been used to make several improvements such as resurfaced streets with new curb designs, a change in the traffic patterns and the planting of several new trees.

Each new tree was sponsored by an individual or organization that paid $500 for it to be planted, and in return, a plaque was placed by it in their honor.

Phase two of downtown Sherman's revitalization project will start in the near future. During this phase, more trees will be placed in planters around the square.
