Group Holds Open House At Grayson Co. Airport

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- A group based at the airport opens its doors for a special event today. The Civil Air Patrol - Texoma Composite Squadron held an open house at the North Texas Regional Airport.

Organizers say the group, which meets every week on Monday evenings, has three main goals:  helping with emergency services, aerospace education, and training cadets, who are from ages 12 to 20.

"Cadets follow military customs and courtesies and the same kind of drill that you would find in the Air Force. Civil Air Patrol is the Air Force Auxiliary," says organizer Michael Bernier.

People were testing out two flight simulation computers, marching in step, and they also launched some rockets. The Civil Air Patrol is a nationwide organization that was started during World War II as a way for civilians to help in the war effort.
