Chris Cagle Benefit Concert in Ardmore

ARDMORE, OK-- County music superstar Chris Cagle will be performing live in Ardmore tonight for a benefit concert for a local family shelter.

The Family Shelter of Southern Oklahoma helps victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault, and stalking.  A benefit concert is being held Thursday to raise money for those victims.

"We serve over 350 victims every year!," said business manager Misty Butler. "It will be used in shelter to make sure that our clients have a safe place to go and that their needs are taken care of."

Misty Butler has worked at the shelter for more than 5 years. She said she hopes the concert will  not only raise money, but bring awareness about the problem of domestic abuse.

She said the concert would not have been possible without the help of country music star Chris Cagle's wife Kay.

"Kay Cagle, Chris Cagle's wife did an internship with us and she just really connected with what we did so she asked Chris if he would volunteer his time and put on a show for us as a fundraiser," said Butler.

The shelter holds fundraiser's raising between 10-20-thousand-dollars a year. Butler says they hope to raise more than that Thursday night. She said they'll use the money to build a needed expansion to the shelter.

"We definitely want to thank the community, we received a lot of sponsorships and we also got a lot of items donated to do a raffle, so our community has really supported us," Butler said.

Statistics show that every 9 seconds a woman in the U.S. is beaten or battered. Workers said a booth will be set up outside of the concert for anyone that have any questions about domestic abuse or need help.
