MOTHER'S DAY HISTORY

The first official Mother's Day wasthe second Sunday in May, 1908. The day to honor Mothers started withAnn Jarvis and after her death, continued by her daughter, Anna.

Five hundred carnations were brought tochurch by Anna, that Sunday, for the mothers in the congregation, chosen because they were her mother's favorite flower. This startedthe tradition of carnations being given at religious services.

Mothers who lost their son(s) during awar flew the American flag on Mother's Day.
