Hundreds Attend Archery Meet In Grayson County

GRAYSON COUNTY, TX -- Texas came out on top in an archery meet that drew students from two states to Loy Lake Park.

The Red River Archery Shootout is an individual competition that drew more than 400 students from archery teams at S&S, Marietta, Ringling, Rattan, and Paris.

But many of the students came a long way for the competition, including schools as far away as Flower Mound and Chickasha.

"You don't have to be the tallest, fastest, strongest kid, all you have to do is have heart and determination and practice and you can become a good archer, so everybody can shoot archery," says organizer Nathan Wieck, who coaches a team at St. Mary's School in Sherman.

Wieck says the event, now in its third year, has more than doubled in size. Earlier in the day, the park was also busy as the Dash Through the Past 5K run was held at the Frontier Village.
