Bryan Co. Commissioner Resigns Chair Over Jail Staffing

BRYAN COUNTY, OK -- A county commissioner says he is sticking to his guns when it comes to reducing jail staff, and now he is resigning as chairman.

Commissioner Monty Montgomery says he assured voters three years ago that the new jail would require less staff.

When two commissioners voted against a plan to cut reduce staff, possibly by eight jailers, on Monday, he stepped down as chair.

Montgomery says he had offered new Sheriff Ken Golden a chance to add two new deputies and a patrol car instead.

Tony Simmons will be the new chairman for the rest of the year and Montgomery, 60, says he will complete his term through December 2014.
