BONHAM, TX -- A mystery has officials concerned after fake city checks with the city's account number turned up out of state, and now the search is on for whoever made the fraudulent material.

Mayor Roy Floyd says in the past few days, they have gotten reports of three bogus city checks. Officials say someone is trying to cash the bogus checks.

"We had a place in Pennsylvania, a check cashing place, that was presented with a check and to verify they called the City of Bonham," says Mayor Roy Floyd.

Another call about a fraudulent check came from a bank in Tennessee. Floyd says someone is really looking to cash in since the checks were made out for a couple thousand dollars.

Even though it didn't happen in Bonham, Floyd says anyone who has a concern about a city-issued check may contact City Hall.
