5K Run Set to Take Place for Lone Grove Alumni

ARDMORE, OK--More than three-hundred people have signed up for a 5k run this Saturday in Ardmore to help raise money for Cody Ponder, a Lone Grove alumni who's been diagnosed with esophageal cancer.

35-year-old Cody Ponder received some devastating news that changed his life forever.
A couple years ago Cody was diagnosed with esophageal cancer, but Cody didn't give up and fought his way to the cure.

Now almost two years later, doctors said Cody's cancer is back, and he has to fight once more.
Like before, his family is standing behind him through it all.

"He has stage 4 esophageal cancer. As far as power, I guess it's pretty powerful, but Cody's power to beat it is stronger. He has  the most positive attitude and the most fight out of anybody I know" said Denise Menke, Cody's aunt.

Friends and family put together a 5k run to help raise money for Cody's expenses. The run is Saturday in Ardmore at the regional park at 8:30 a.m.

Cody's aunt Denise Menke has been working closely with several other family members to put the fundraiser together. She said it's the first one they've done for Cody and said the family is pleased.

"We've done a pretty good job, we have over 300 registered runners at this time and our online registration is still open until noon tomorrow, and then of course we have onsite registration the morning of the run which is Saturday," said Menke.

Cody is originally from Lone Grove but lives in Norman with his wife. He said he's honored to have so much support from friends and family, even those that are out of the country!

"The run for me is just another indication of how much love and support that I have from friends and family, there will be a lot of people from Norman there too. I actually have a guy that U work with that is coming in from Vancouver Canada for the run," said Cody.

To register for the race or to donate money go to www.signmeup.com/90291.

The deadline to register online is Friday at midnight, but you can still register at the event. The registration fee is $25.
