TUSHKA, OK -- In the small, tight-knit town of Tushka, Oklahoma, news of a deadly wreck along Highway 69 Friday morning is still sinking in.

According to Tushka police, the driver of a jeep SUV was traveling with her four grandchildren when the accident happened.

"The SUV lost control due to the wet weather and wet asphalt," Asst. Chief Charles Sanders said.

Police say the grandmother was traveling southbound on Highway 69 when she lost control of her SUV and swerved into oncoming traffic. They say the vehicle spun around and was rear-ended by a motor coach.

The SUV landed at the bottom of an embankment just north of Boggy Depot Road.

The motor coach was carrying a church group from Gainesville to Arkansas.

No one on the motor coach was injured, but police say two small boys inside the SUV and their grandmother, who friends and co-workers identified as Carol Lang, died.

Employees at the daycare where Lang taught a class of toddlers say three of the children she was with were visiting her for spring break.

Friends who knew Lang say they're stunned.

"She's just a sweet, sweet person. Would help you and a friend of mine that lives next door to them she's always calling her and making sure she has what she needs," Robin Settlemire said. "You couldn't ask for a better person."

As a requirement by law, a blood test was taken from the driver of the motor coach to determine if impairment was a factor. But, police tell us they don't expect any charges to be filed.

They say it's a tragic accident that occurs all too often along this dangerous stretch of road.

"It takes a lot out of you when you work something like this," Sanders said. "We've worked a lot of accidents down through here over the years."

Sanders says all of the children in the SUV were under the age of 8. He said they were not wearing safety belts.

The two children who survived the crash were stabilized at the Atoka County Medical Center before being flown to another hospital for treatment. Their condition is unknown.

The names and ages of the children have not been released.
