ARDMORE OK-- A house fire in Ardmore has left a man and his mother without a house to call their own.

Pictures are all Albert carter said he has left after a fire destroyed his home and nearly destroyed his car.

Carter lived in the home with his mother, and said he woke up to screams and the smell of smoke.

"My mom and I were in the house asleep, and my ex-wife who lives next door started hollering "fire, fire get out!" I opened the door and saw a big fire right beside my mom's bed," said Carter

Carter said once he realized what was going on, he ran to save his mother. He said tried to get out of the house through the front door.

"I'm half asleep and I saw my mom get up. I went in there and grabbed her and I started to grab the front door, but burnt my fingers," said Carter.

Carter said a neighbor next door helped them out of the burning home.

Jimmy carter is Albert's brother who lives down the street. He said he too was asleep when he heard someone screaming.

"I'm taking my nap and I'm hearing screaming and hollering.  I came out to my front door and I noticed my mother's house in flames."

Neighbors said they were shocked to wake up to a house engulfed in flames.

"I just woke up and ran in and woke up my roommate to come out here and look at it. It was terrible I mean cop cars and fire trucks were everywhere," said neighbor Clifton Wright.

"I was in my house asleep and I started smelling smoke and hearing sirens and then my roommate came inside and he told me there was a fire outside, and her whole house was just indulged in flames," said neighbor Brandon Smith.

Fire officials said the fire started on the porch due to an extension cord that ran to a freezer. The family will stay with Albert Carter's ex-wife for now.

Relatives said Red Cross is helping the family with clothes.
