DENISON, TX -- City council members cleared the way to swap land with a church for a new Southside fire station.

The city will swap land already purchased on Park Street with the neighboring Southside Baptist Church on Spur 503 so they have an easier spot to build.

It would replace an existing station on Spur 503 and College and will not have a training center as once planned, after a grant did not come through.

Assistant Fire Chief Bill Ray says being close to Texoma Medical Center, it will help with insurance ratings, and accommodate newer fire trucks.

The fire department also has a second branch station on West Morton Street.
