DENISON, TX -- A special concert gave some residents a chance to hear live classical music, and the students say they were glad to put on a show for an appreciative audience.

Three students from the Juilliard School in New York and five master's degree music students from Rice University in Houston played at the Waples United Methodist Church on West Main Street on Saturday afternoon.

"It's the first time I've gotten to do something like this and for the other students as well," says cello player Francesca McNeeley, a Rice student. "We all get to participate in summer festivals and things like that, but during the year we're usually focused in being at our schools."

The students will be back to play music before the 11 a.m. church service on Sunday, and also visited a Sherman nursing home The Renaissance along with TMC in Denison.

The free events were sponsored by Denison Performing Arts, the Bocklett Family Foundation, and the city's Main Street office.
