Silo Public Schools on Lockdown Following Shooting

BRYAN COUNTY, OK---- A shooting on the campus of Silo Public Schools had students and faculty on lockdown for more then an hour this morning.

Bryan County Sheriff Ken Golden said the lockdown occurred after a female student shot herself inside a truck in the school's parking lot around 11 a.m.

He said the student was sitting alone in the truck when she shot herself and that no other students witnessed the shooting.

The Bryan County Sheriff's Department, the Durant Police Department, Tribal Police, Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation all responded to today's shooting. School officials cancelled school and parents were notified to pick up their kids.

"We want parents to understand that at no time was there a weapon inside the building and no other students were in danger at any time," Silo Schools Superintendent Dr. Bill Caruthers said.

Sheriff Golden said the student is being treated at a Plano hospital.
OSBI's Jessica Brown has reported that she is in very critical condition.

Superintendent Caruthers said school will continue, as usual, tomorrow.
He also said counselors will be present for anyone who needs them.

The Bryan County Sheriff's Department is currently investigating.
