TEXOMA -- Are allergies bothering you today? Local allergists say Cedar trees and Juniper trees are high in count right now.

The strong winds Sunday and Monday only caused more irritation for people.  Dr. John Van Wagoner, M.D., a Certified Board Allergist explains the best medicine to take for your symptoms.

"If they are just runny, sneezy, itchy, watery then just do over the counter antihistamines . Take Alegra, or Clariton would be a-fore-po. But if stuffy is part of the game then a decongestant would be helpful to add to that, so do a Zertec-D or Alegra-D or Clariton-D."

Those medicines are behind the counter so you will need to ask for them. For daily medication to prevent allergies from even starting, allergists suggest a nasal steroid spray.

"If you are going to play the as needed game with the medicines then doing the Zertec, Alegro, or Clariton is probably the way to go. But if you are willing to do something daily then nasal steroid spray is much more likely to induce or prevent symptoms," says Van Wagoner, M.D.
