Ardmore Residents support "Relay For Life" Cancer Organization

ARDMORE, OK-- Dozens of people came to the Ardmore public library to support the "Relay For Life" organization. A non-profit organization that supports cancer patients during and after treatment.

Andi is a young girl who said she has been coming to "Relay For Life" for three years now, ever since she survived cancer. Andi said the organization means a lot to her.

"Because I'm a three year cancer survivor and I have a relay for life team, it's just really great and I love it."" Andi said.

Event Chair Kelly Fryer said the importance of this organization is prevention.

"Because the more we learn about cancer and what causes it we can change those lifestyles and we can prevent it completely," Fryer said.

According to the CDC death rates from all cancers combined for men, women, and children continued to decrease in the united states between 2004 and 2008. Fryer said she lost both of her parents to cancer

"The main thing I feel is that the cancer research, and funding the cancer prevention studies is important because through those studies we found the link between cigarette smoking and lung cancer. Also hormone replacement and breast cancer," Fryer said

She also said relay for life is much more than just an organization.

"It's not just an even it's an emotional connection. It's about relationships, it's about healing and bringing people together and just spreading a message of hope," Fryer said.
