SHERMAN, TX -- Sherman High senior Taylor Van Kirk signed her letter of intent to play softball at Northeast Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant.
The Lady Cat catcher plans to put in her two years there, eventually transferring to Oklahoma to play ball for the Sooners.
During last year's UIL playoffs Van Kirk and the rest of her squad played their last game at the college, where she fell in love with the campus and connected with the coach.
Without a bit of help from Sherman's softball coach, Larry Zachary, this dream may not have come true.
"Coach Zachary, I am the only person to start all four years under him, and he's just a really good coach and really helped me throughout my four years," she said.
"If he hadn't picked to play at Northeast Texas I probably wouldn't have picked to play there."
Van Kirk plans to major in education, minor in history to become a history teacher and softball coach.
