New Sheriff Takes Office In Bryan County

DURANT, OK -- For the first time in 20 years, there is a new sheriff in town in Bryan County, and he says he is excited to get to work.

Ken Golden was sworn in as sheriff by Judge Mark Campbell on Wednesday morning. Soon after, Golden appeared before county commissioners, to discuss the Sheriff's office taking over some space on the ground floor of the courthouse.

Golden says that after nine years as undersheriff and 20 years in the department, he is ready to make some changes. "We're looking forward to a little re-organization, getting a new look for ourselves, we've been the same for pretty much 20 years," says Golden.

Golden says he would like to upgrade deputies' cars, uniforms, and equipment, and possibly have them visit schools. Meantime, a new jail addition is set to open soon. Golden's former boss, Bill Sturch, retired after 20 years in office.
