SHERMAN, TX - Meals on Wheels volunteers often deliver the only food and only human contact some seniors will get all day, but as the temperatures drop across Texoma, some of those seniors are facing more than just loneliness and hunger.

As winter weather makes it's way across Texoma, in 78 year old Daisey May Jackson's house, staying warm has been a task.

"It's pretty cold baby."

She doesn't have central heating, so she keeps a small gas heater in the living room where she sleeps.

"I just had my comforter, I sleep in here on this bed," said Jackson.

But sadly, Daisey isn't the only one.

"They're proud and they don't want people to know that they need the help that they need sometimes," Linda Jay of Meals on Wheels Texoma.

Meals on Wheels volunteers see other senior citizens in the same situation on their routes, delivering warm meals, to cold homes.

"The cost of medicine has gone up the cost of groceries has gone up, and you have to decide, do you want to be well with your medicines, do you want to stay warm, and they're doing the best they can with what they have," Jay said.

The Local Elderly Assistance Partners, also known as LEAP, have teamed up with Meals on Wheels Texoma, to help bring seniors in need, blankets to go along with those warm meals.

So today, Daisey, got a little something extra with her usual delivery.

"I think it's good, you know what I'm talking about, it's love, love, cause people love you and care about you enough to give you something like this to keep you warm," Jackson said.

You can drop off a new or gently used blanket at your local Meals on Wheels center.
