DENISON, TX -- A call went out to shoppers to help needy children get gifts for Christmas, as the Salvation Army stationed volunteers to collect toys outside busy stores.
Volunteers were at two Wal-Mart stores in Denison and Sherman looking for gifts on Saturday, and organizers say the toys donated will help make sure every child in the charity's Angel Tree program gets a gift.
Every year, the program provides a helping hand during the holidays for dozens of Texoma parents.
"They put what the kids are asking for and it's just a suggestion, and then we put the angels on the tree with the suggestion of their wish for Christmas," says volunteer Edith Coker. "Whoever takes the angel off can buy that or they can buy something else."
The Fill the Truck event took place at stores across the country, in a partnership between the Salvation Army and Wal-Mart.
