ATOKA COUNTY, OK -- A man died overnight after a fire on a farm got out of hand, and now his death is under investigation.
Neighbors say the 74-year-old man was trying to burn stumps on a property on Bird Dog Road east of Lane on Tuesday, when he lost control of the fires.
We're told firefighters got the fire back under control on Tuesday night, but friends say he went to check on it again, and never made it back home.
"The wind came up, I guess it got out of control and got away from him, because he didn't make it back to the pickup," says family friend Wanda Lytle.
Friends say the man was by himself and they believe the fire started up again. The body was removed from the field and taken in for an autopsy.
