POTTSBORO, TX -- The Pottsboro Cardinals put the rest versus rust argument to bed last Friday night, storming into Royse City and putting up 41 points while holding Malakoff scoreless.
Twenty-one straight days without the thrill of in-game action, but it kept them fresh and flying around to the football.
The road gets tougher for the Cardinals, who are now just four wins a way from a state championship.
In this regional round, they get New Boston, an undefeated squad they're all too familiar with.
In last year's area round, New Boston routed the Cards 47-26 ending a dream season.
This time around, they say things are going to be a little different.
"I don't know if you put revenge as much as a factor as much as it is we're familiar with them. We kind of know what they bring to the table, even though a lot of their guys are different as well," said head coach Matt Poe.
"Having played them before, and one thing those guys have taken from last year is we played pretty good the second half and were able to outscore them the second half. So that's something we're holding our hat on and we just know that we can't get in a big hole the first half like we did last year. I think it will be a whole different ball game this year to be honest with you."
