DENISON,TX---For the second year in a row the official Texas State Capitol Christmas tree will come from a local tree farm. The owners of Elves Christmas Tree Farm in Denison say they are so excited to be providing this year's tree.
"We were able to provide a tree last year and I got several calls and emails from people from the house telling us that it was the prettiest tree they've ever had," Elves Christmas Tree Farm Owner Marshall Cathey said.
This year's tree is a Virginia Pine that stands 21 feet tall. The tree is being cut down at 6 a.m. Monday morning and will arrive at the Texas State Capitol Monday afternoon. Once it arrives, it will be prepped, decorated and put out on the house floor.
The Elves Christmas Tree Farm originally opened in the late 1980s. Thirteen years ago Cathey bought the farm from it's original owner. He says his wife grew up next to the farm and that they had always wanted to do something a little bit different. His wife says they typically sell about 1000 trees a season.
