POTTSBORO, TX -- Another first round bye for the Pottsboro Cardinals as they await their area round opponent Malakoff.
The 'Cards put together a perfect 10-0 season, have had the last two weeks off and are ready to start steam rolling through the 2A playoffs.
Their opponent, the Malakoff Tigers, are a physical team that loves to run the ball.
Good news for Cardinal fans, Pottsboro is good at stopping the run.
For the past two weeks they've been resting up after playing 12 straight weeks, and that rest may make the difference in the area round matchup.
"I think it was good for our guys, they're re-energized and ready to go. We probably had our best work out of the year yesterday," head coach Matt Poe said.
"I think it's beneficial. It gets our legs rested. We had a couple of guys injured, so it gave them a chance to get back on their feet and get healthy. So I think it's an advantage to us," senior wide receiver Dallas Sewell added.
They'll kick from Royse City 7:30 Friday night.
