DENISON, TX -- Zoning commissioners approved a plan to open a distillery near Highway 75, and the organizers of the new business plan to have tastings and tours.

Two brothers who live in Pottsboro said Tuesday that they will make vodka, gin, brandy, and whiskey at a new building on Trail Drive, near a liquor store off of Loy Lake Road.

"My brother and I got it in our heads that we wanted to start a business and help bring out Texas," says Robert Likarish. "We're very proud because we've lived in Texas most of our lives and we wanted to develop that market in Texas."

Likarish says they came up with the idea after visiting a distillery while on vacation in Washington state. The distillery will have tastings, but will not directly sell the liquor.

The brothers plan to buy local grains to use in their liquors and they plan to have the business open by next May.
