As the calendar flips closer to August, marching bands across Texoma turn parking lots into football fields to practice. But instead of the sounds of a band rehearsal in front of Noble Stadium in Ardmore it's dead silent. "There's a little bit of a conce...More >>

TEXOMA -- With the holidays around the corner the Salvation Army right here in Texoma needs your help to feed needy families.

"We've helped over 700 families last year and we have exceeded that this year. Many families are having to decide whether they need help to pay their rent and utilities so the families are coming to us needing their food assistance," explains Major Helene Wildish CORP Officer with the Salvation Army.

The good spirit of the holidays is getting close, so here at KTEN we want to ask you for your donation to help fill area food pantries in Sherman, Durant, and Ardmore which serve families in need all over Texoma.

"We do have a lot of people who need food this time of year and our food pantry is very empty right now," says Major Wildish.

We have teamed up with The UPS stores in Sherman, Durant, and Ardmore and also Mackey Discount Mattress in Durant for this food drive.  Any of those locations will accept donations.

Some of you have already been gracious enough to help.

"I did see you guys on TV taking donations for the Salvation Army and decided this would be something to help out the community," says General Manager, Jason Scott, of the Comfort Inn and Suites in Denison.

The hotel was able to give a variety of food items.

"Canned food items, canned meat items, and some easy mix items," says Scott.

Food is not only needed for the holidays but well into the new year.

"We are needing the food to help throughout our Christmas season and throughout the holiday season and we also have the other times of the year that we need help for the food," says Major Wildish.

Last year we were able to support families through May so we want to donate even more this year to fill the pantries all the way until the next holiday season.

"Well its helping out the community here in the Denison area and its for a good cause," says Scott.

We will be collecting food items for this good cause from now until December 14th. You can just drive over on your way to work or coming home and make a donation. Again, any location of The UPS Stores in Sherman, Durant, and Ardmore are collecting donations along with the Macky Discount Mattress in Durant and our own studio in Ardmore and Denison.  Thank you for your support!
