POTTSBORO, TX -- When the Pottsboro Cardinals got together in the dog days of summer for two-a-days, they had one main goal: win the district. Friday they'll have a chance to do just that.
It'll be business as usual for the Cardinals as they welcome Van Alstyne to town.
Sixteen seniors will step on to their home field for the last time with a shot at a district crown.
Never in coach Matt Poe's six seasons have the Cardinals reached 8-0, but he says they had hoped to have been here and feel very fortunate.
Their second goal? Play in December. Something that would switch from a possibility to a reality if Pottsboro played to their potential.
"We have yet to play a full game as well as we can play, and we're looking forward to doing that," Poe said. "Hopefully we'll start gathering momentum these last two weeks and then going to playoffs we'll be at that point. I don't think there is a limit, there's no ceiling on it. I think that if we play to our potential with each one of our guys that there's no telling what we can do and who we can play with and who we can beat or what have you. I think it's very positive for sure."
They'll kick against Van Alstyne Friday at 7:30 p.m.
