SHERMAN, TX -- Some dogs are getting into the Halloween spirit after their owners entered them in a unique contest.
A Denison couple won the Howl-o-ween costume contest and a $10 gift card at the PetSmart store on Saturday afternoon, with a theme of a "crawfish boil" that started with one lobster costume and grew to include all four of their dogs. "We have our seasoning, our crawfish, our chef, and our eater," says owner Nelson Adams.
A colorful outfit from the website E-Bay landed dog owner Alyssa Woody's white lab mix in third place. "My daughter's also going to be a copa cabana girl, so we're all trying to do a family thing, and my husband's going to be Zorro and I'm going to be a fiesta girl too," says Woody.
Not everyone who participated in the contest is ready to walk their animals during Halloween. "It's not usually very safe to have your dogs out on Halloween, there's too much stuff going on, too many chances of them getting hurt," says owner Leanne Duigan.
One pug was dressed up as an angel, but keeping the halo on was sometimes difficult. Owners took pictures with their dogs, including one that looked like it was wearing a tissue box because the dog always gets into the tissue box.
Second place went to a dog that a volunteer from the Red River SPCA says looks like a great replacement for Big Tex. "He's a cowboy, it's his first time, so he's a little nervous," says owner Debra Ring.
