Moyers superintendent exempts students from standardized test after tragedy

MOYERS, OK -- The same standardized test that gave thousands of Oklahoma students problems earlier this week is now giving one Texoma community even more stress. this time, though, it has nothing to do with technical glitches. "I was shocked," Moyers resident Linda Kellett said. People in Moyers are still trying to figure it out. "That's ridiculous. It makes no sense," parent Beth Leinau said. How could two students whose parents died over the weekend ever be expected to focus on a standa...More >>

TEXOMA -- As the summer winds down, people all over Texoma were using the weekend for a little last minute fun. Some opted for history and education at the Chickasaw Cultural Center in Sulphur.

"We have visitors from really, all over the world, from all walks of life, that come and visit us and we're sure glad that they come and share in Chickasaw history and culture," said Valorie Walters with the Chickasaw Nation.

The Center is open year-round and offers tours and exhibits and, of course, air conditioning. Down the road in Davis, Turner Falls was packed as visitors hung on to the last week before many schools start.

"Just decided to come down. Better time than ever. Why not?" said visitor Kris Johnson.

Of course, having fun doesn't mean spending  money. Pack a picnic and post up at one of the free boat ramps, beaches or marinas at Lake Murray or Lake Texoma.

"You have a beach if you want to sit out and get a sun tan or lay out on your towel. It's just nicer," Kelsey Schmidt said from a Lake Murray beach.

If you're willing to pay to play, there are plenty of options on the lakes.

"We have everything from your motorized watercraft to your non-motorized. We've got the water slide and water trampoline. We also have Wave Runners, jet boats, stuff like that," Cody Brown at Lake Murray Water Sports explained.

One last boat rental is exactly what Ryan Moore and his family opted to do.

"We're just hanging out, swimming with the kids. We've got Jet Skis- the usual lake stuff," Moore said.

Before it's back to busses and books, remember that there are plenty of adventures just beyond your back yard.
