Chickasaw Cultural Center Celebrates Second Anniversary

SULPHUR, OK -- While a story teller shares a tale, the youngest members of the audience may not even realize that they are learning. In celebration of the Chickasaw Nation Cultural Center's second anniversary, visitors from all over came to enjoy the sights and sounds of the rich history.

"The cultural center itself was built to be a home for Chickasaw history and culture and also a place to share our culture with anyone and everyone who wants to learn," said Valorie Walters with the Cultural Center.

Artisans showed off hand made crafts and visitors got to take in the views of the center, just south of Sulphur. Outside of carefully designed modern buildings lies a scene that looks frozen in time.

While the cultural center is a celebration of Chickasaw heritage, you don't have to be Native American to enjoy the sights. They use this sprawling campus to reach out to people of all different kinds of backgrounds.

"We have visitors from, really, all over the world, all walks of life that come and visit us and we're certainly happy that they come and share that Chickasaw history and culture," Walters said.

From health care to tourism, the Nation has been working to expand their mark on Texoma.

"It's all a great opportunity for Chickasaw country to be here and be a part of all the growth that's going on," said Walters.

While the celebration was designed to be extra special for the day, the center is open year-round to preserve their part of history and share it with the world. Reporting in Sulphur, I'm Shannon McConathy
